Values an inherent part of learning
Integrated values
Values need not be forcibly learned. There are innumerable teaching moments that can be subtly used to bring in the values most needed. Punctuality can be learnt through the role middling of the Teacher. Discipline, Regularity , the right attitude to work and people around, can be emulated from the adults around.
Parents and teachers are both role models. Through conversation many positive attitudes and skills can thus be gained.
Cleanliness and hygiene are regular habits, that need to be inculcated along with orderliness in an inducto- deductive method.
Imperative to keep environment clean
Many times, as we travel on road, many of us have a tendency of throwing litter from the windows of the vehicles ,on to the roadside. At the outskirts the environment is the cleanest, with the stretch of a green belt, of trees and groves and orchards and fields . It’s our responsibility then ,not to throw items and plastic out of the cars, buses, trains etc. The pollution should not spread to the green fields. Habits die hard, it’s time we cultivate good habits , of not throwing waste products around. Rules need to be followed.
Family, School, Neighbourhood, Country
Family is the first institution that inculcates the right attitude to study, to work, to people, developing a caring and warm attitude, managing routines, self, attending to self help skills. Both the mother and the father are important, informal education begins at home.
The school on the other hand formalises.learning in an informative yet a playful manner. The syllabus is carefully drafted for the learning of concepts within the subject content but also the infusion of values like tidiness, finishing the task in hand, helpfulness, neatness and perseverance.
Collaboration, cooperation are social skills that are very essential. The school offers umpteen opportunities towards these.
The neighbourhood includes children and adults. Sharing, caring, showing empathy, sympathy, are necessary for social survival. Today a selfish attitude prevails , almost to isolation. The neighbourhood needs to attempt to bring its members together, providing a host of events where people get to know each other. Helping one another, communicating , interacting make the human family worth the living and coexisting.
