Implications of Assessment and Evaluation of pupils’ skills.
The right evaluation brings about the desired change.
Child Development Specialists have spoken of effects of positive evaluation , raising the self esteem of the young children.
In the early years it’s imperative to raise a positive feedback ,giving the child enough opportunities to blossom into a wholesome personality. The brain development is at its peak in the first eight years , and emotional development is shaping the psychological aspects of the personality.
The first six years are the most impressionable ,every impression is stored.
Hence care is needed not to belittle the child, especially in front of others.
Moreover when , inspiration is provided with the right words, the child puts in the right efforts. We need to understand that once the planning is done keeping the three difficulty levels, every child has an opportunity in achieving to an extent possible by him/ her.
Yet this procedure of putting things in the positive sphere, needs to be moderate as the students grow older and now are able to face both success and failure. A state of Readiness and emotional maturity has arrived. That’s the time then, an honest feedback would enable for further improvement. Correct methodology, followed by correct reinforcement, repetition, would help the individual child improve his or her skills.
Assessment and evaluation of accomplishment of competency skills needs to lead in a sequence, enhancing the existing levels of achievements in speaking, reading, writing, mathematical , creative ...and various other subject content.
All children/ students will not be alike, individual differences bring about different levels of achievements, hence evaluation and assessment should not be a measure to look down upon and empower the teacher falsely. False pride in oneself and a haughty outlook doesn’t make a good teacher.
Assessment is of the levels of proficiency , on the spot ,based on the tests conducted and evaluation is a measure of reference , taking the entire behaviour of the student ,from an all round perspective. While individual assessment may vary , the over all evaluation may help the student succeed, the averaging of scores leads to evaluation, all inclusive ,including attendance, attention span, concentration, memory, understanding, confidence, creativity, divergent thinking, reasoning, logical or analytical reasoning, decision making, personality, special abilities in subject content like vocabulary, observation, social behaviour, emotional maturity, conversation ability, sportsmanship , cooperation , collaboration and so on. Evaluation is on life long learning skills.
We need to understand that in the early years, it’s the process of Evaluation that is important, both the formative and summative evaluation, the entry point behaviour and the exit point behaviour, the year long progress needs to be looked into.
In the later Primary school going years , followed into the secondary school and thereafter, a definite pattern of assessment can be made on the levels of achievements , it surely would enhance the levels of performance. Assessments of this nature takes care of practice and perfection. The understanding develops from concrete to abstract reasoning.
Evaluation and Assessment should not be used as weapons of war, if at all they are supposed to be used to narrow the differences between the teacher’s knowledge and the taught.
” In order to succeed your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.”

Out of clutter, find simplicity.
From discord,find harmony.
In the middle of difficulty
lies the opportunity.
